The Everyday Efficiency of AI
By Kat Powell
I'm 20 years old, a junior software developer, and I can't imagine doing my job without AI anymore. For me, AI isn’t a shortcut; it’s support. It takes care of the repetitive tasks, allowing me to focus more on building and problem-solving.
I use Cursor constantly when working on Unity scripts or web development projects. What I love about it is that it reads my existing files and understands the context of what I'm building. Instead of trying to find how to implement one specific function from a YouTube or Udemy video, Cursor shows me how to do it in my code, with my structure. It's the difference between generic tutorials and having someone who knows your project inside and out.
Then there's the design side. When I used to create sprites or UI elements in Krita, my line art looked messy and unprofessional. But I needed professional looking assets for my Unity projects. With AI, I can generate clean SVGs, icons, and sprite images in seconds. I often use AI to generate custom visuals, and it does an amazing job maintaining a consistent look across everything. Even tools like Figma are great, but they still require me to build everything from scratch. AI gives me that polished result immediately.
Debugging is another game-changer. Sometimes bugs are hidden well or so tiny that it would take a solid chunk of time hunting them down. AI catches those issues quickly, letting me move forward instead of getting stuck in frustration.
AI handles tedious parts so I can focus on problem-solving and creative work. I spend my energy on Unity game logic, figuring out user experience, and building out important features. I'm not fighting with syntax errors or redrawing lines on repeat. The creative, interesting parts of development are where my time goes now.
I'm self-taught and I learned through Udemy, YouTube, and hands-on project work. AI has become the tool that fills in my knowledge gaps and keeps me productive. It's my everyday toolkit, and honestly, I'm grateful it exists. Development moves fast, and these tools help me keep pace while truly enjoying what I do.
